Local Farms in Pinellas County
Life Farms
Life farms is located in Clearwater Florida, the heart of Pinellas County. This farm has 6 acres of land where they grow vegetables, micro greens, and herbs. They do not use any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides when growing their crops.
Life farms now sells its produce to about a half dozen restaurants as well as delivers their micro greens every week to Nature’s Food Patch which is located in Clearwater and Dunedin. They also sell their products at the St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market and The Dunedin Market.
The farm was started back in 2013 when thier first plants were planted that spring and their first CSA season was the fall of that year. In 2018 Life Farms went on to merge with Sonnengarten Farm. This farm is now on the way to becoming a USDA Certified Organic Farm.
Sonnengarten Farm
Sonnenngarten Farm is located in Clearwater, FL. It is an organic farm that grows micro greens, herbs, and vegetables, all without pesticides. They also grow native wildflowers and in 2018 they merged with Life Farms.
Gateway Organic Farms
Gateway Organic Farms is the last family farm left in heart of Pinellas County. The farm is on 3.19 acres and is USDA Certified Organic. It was once a landscape nursery that was transformed into a organic herb and vegetable garden.
At this farm, the owners work to provide the freshest vegetables, flowers, and herbs to local Tampa Bay chefs and other Tampa Bay clients. They also like to offer the use of their farm for a tour for school field trips or other groups functions. Volunteers are also welcome to go to Gateway Organic Farms to learn more about organic gardening.
Greens N Things Urban Farm
This farm focuses on using empty lots in St Petersburg, FL to turn them into great growing spaces. They also focus on growing items such as different types of lettuce, root vegetables, and baby greens. Greens N Things Urban Farm likes to grow their products for local families and restaurants.
Another unique difference with this farm is that they like to make as much of their own soil as possible. When making their own soil, they compost local items like used brewers grains, spoiled produce they get from local food banks, and also coffee grounds. They also use fruit and vegetable pulp from smoothie and juices to make their own soil.
