Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream with protein powder

You'll absolutely love this Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream with protein powder. Not only is it a delicious way to help meet your protein goals, but it's a healthy dessert that actaully tastes delicious.

In this homemade chocolate cherry ice cream I used fresh picked Michigan cherries for the base and used more cherries as a mix in.

That way you get bits of fresh cherries in every bite.

The Ninja CREAMi is honestly the easiest way to make delicious and healthy ice cream recipes at home.

Why you'll love this Chocolate Cherry Ice Cream

  • Easy to make – This ice cream recipe is very easy to follow. The only hard part is waiting 18-24 hours for the ice cream to be frozen.
  • Healthy Ice Cream Recipe - Not only is this ice cream high in protein, but it's packed full of vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients

  • Milk (raw goat milk or whole milk)
  • Maple syrup
  • Cocoa powder
  • Fresh cherries pitted
  • Chocolate protein powder
  • Optional chocolate chips/chunks
A jar of chocolate cherry ice cream.

Tips & Tricks

Be sure to prepare in advance. This recipe takes 18-24 hours to freeze. I like to plan ahead and make it before the weekend. This is when I always want an extra sweet treat.

Tools to make this easy recipe

  • Ninja Blender – I love my ninja blender. Not only can you use it for the obvious, like smoothies and shakes, but it also works perfectly for making the ice cream base!
  • Ninja Creami ice cream maker – I am in love with this Ninja Creami.
  • Ninja Creami Pints - I opted for these pints because they were about half the price, but be weary if you need them quickly; it took about three weeks to get here. They did have some prime options for other pint containers, but I was being thrifty.

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Next, transfer the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint and place the lid on.

  4. After 24 hours, remove the lid and place the pint into the pint holder. Place the lid with the blade on top and lock it into place.
  5. Run the Ninja Creami on the ice cream function. You will need to respin twice for the best texture.

Substitutions

If you don't have goat's milk, you can always use regular milk like Fairlife milk. Just remember this will change the nutrition of your ice cream.

If you don't have fresh cherries, you can use frozen cherries.

How to store

When freezing the ice cream pint, make sure the lid is on secured and it's placed in the freezer on a flat surface. The ice cream should last 3 to 6 months in the freezer.

If you don't eat all of the ice cream in one sitting, make sure to flatten the top of the ice cream, replace the lid and store in the freezer. When you're ready to eat it again you will need to run it on the ice cream or lit ice cream function for 2 spins.

    4 stars
I made this with Fairlife whole milk, fresh cherries, Optimum Nutrition chocolate protein, and a tablespoon of black cocoa powder and it’s absolutely delicious! The only slight hitch was that it needed 3 respins to get a nice, creamy texture and it froze sort of “weirdly” into layers that were sort of stuck on the side of the pint. Still, this recipe is a keeper!
