Making asparagus in the air fryer is incredibly quick and easy! In just 7 minutes you will have a crispy asparagus ready to enjoy! You can also add some grated parmesan cheese to give it tons of flavor.

Asparagus in the Air Fryer

Using the air fryer to cook asparagus is a great way to get a crispy and delicious asparagus. It is one of my favorite ways to cook them! They come out perfect every single time!

Air fryer asparagus is a simple and easy side dish for almost any meal. It’s a super versatile low carb vegetable recipe.

Asparagus pair perfectly with so many proteins! Try it with these Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Thighs or even these Air Fryer New York Strip Steaks.

Why you’ll love this Air Fryer Asparagus recipe

  • Quick and Easy– these crispy asparagus can be done in just 8 minutes!
  • Great for meal prep– these asparagus can be an easy meal prep item. Just adding a little parmesan to these adds a pop of flavor with very few calories.
  • Simple ingredients– with only 5 ingredients in this recipe, you can get all these ingredients at your local grocery store.

Ingredients

  • fresh asparagus spears
  • olive oil or avocado oil
  • Seasonings: salt, pepper
  • grated parmesan cheese or your favorite Italian Cheese
  • fresh lemon juice

Tips & Tricks

A tip for knowing where to cut the ends of the asparagus stalks is to hold the asparagus at each end and bend it until it snaps. Line up the remainder asparagus and cut. If you don’t want to cut the ends off, you can grab a few asparagus spears and snap the woody ends off at the same time.

Make sure not to overcook asparagus or it will deplete the flavor and texture. Nobody likes limpy asparagus.

Tools to make this easy recipe

How to make Air Fryer Asparagus

  1. Cut the asparagus. 
  2. In a small bowl add your oil, salt, and pepper. 
  3. Put the asparagus on a plate and add your mixture. Move the asparagus around.
  4. Sprinkle the parmesan cheese on top
  5. Add the asparagus to the Air Fryer basket. Only doing a single layer at a time. 
  6. Set Air Fryer temperature to 390 and cook for 7 minutes or cook until the Parmesan Cheese is golden brown.
  7. Squeeze lemon juice over cooked asparagus.
  8. Remove asparagus from the Air Fryer Basket and put on a plate.
  9. Optional add extra parmesan cheese.

Remove and enjoy!

Oven Directions

If you do not have an air fryer you can always cook these in the oven.

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Cut and wash the asparagus and season with salt and pepper and olive oil. Optionally add parmesan cheese
  3. Bake for 12-15 minutes depending on thickness
  4. Remove from over once the parmesan cheese turns golden brown.

Store leftover asparagus in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

How to reheat

Microwave instructions

Remove lid from container or transfer to a microwave safe plate. Microwave for 60-90 seconds on high.

Air Fryer instructions

Place asparagus spears in the air fryer basket. Cook at 350 for 2-3 minutes or until at desired temperature.

You can place the asparagus directly into the air fryer basket. No foil is needed.

How do you keep asparagus crisp?

If you’re not cooking your asparagus for a few day, stand the asparagus spears upright in a tall white glass or mason jar with a few inches full of water. Cover with a plastic bag and store in the fridge.

Can you put aluminum foil in an air fryer?

Yes you can absolutely put foil into the air fryer! It makes for easier clean up especially if you opt to use Parmesan Cheese.

Can you put parchment paper in an air fryer?

You can put parchment paper in an air fryer but it is not recommended for daily use.

How long to cook thick asparagus in air fryer?

Cook thick asparagus for an extra 1-2 minutes
