Many promising supplements come and go, each claiming to be an innovation in health and wellness. When I first came across Naked Nutrition’s Marine Collagen, I was curious, will this be just like any other supplement? Not just because of its clean label or its expanding influence, but because I am a dietitian who wants to know if this product lives up to what it claims to be. Today, I wanted to explore if this supplement is any better and if it's worth your attention, and how this can help in your daily routine.

Discover the Benefits of Naked Marine Collagen Powder

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body made up of amino acids. It plays an important role in maintaining skin health and firmness. It forms a support matrix within the skin, providing structure and elasticity. But as we age, the ability to replenish collagen naturally decreases at 1-1.5 % per year, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. And this is where collagen supplements like Naked Marine collagen, come into play.

Marine collagen is derived from varieties of marine species such as skin and bones of fish and sharks and waste of sea urchins, jellyfishes, and starfishes. It is rich in Type I collagen primarily found in human skin. What makes Naked Nutrition’s Marine Collagen version stand out, is its simplicity and purity. It is hydrolyzed, meaning it’s broken down into smaller peptides for better absorption, and it’s free from additives, artificial flavor, and sweeteners.

Understanding the Source of Marine Collagen

When looking at Naked Nutrition’s sourcing practices, you’ll see that their approach sets them apart by using only one source, wild-caught cod, unlike others with an unknown source.

Unlike bovine (cow) or porcine (pig) collagen, marine collagen is more preferred for its bioavailability. Marine collagen peptides have a lower molecular weight, for easier absorption by the human body. This characteristic makes marine collagen better for skin, health, joint support, and gut healing.

What Are the Key Benefits of Marine Collagen?

Marine collagen has proven benefits from several research studies. It is capable of healing skin injuries of varying severity, delays the human aging process, and has been used in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Other Benefits of Marine Collagen Include

  • Skin Elasticity and Hydration
  • Supports Gut Health
  • Joint and Bone Health

How Much Collagen Should You Take Daily?

I get this question all the time, what is the recommended daily intake of marine collagen? Based on research, the most common dosage is 10-20 grams depending on your goal. If your goal is for skin health, 10 grams would be sufficient, but for non-skin related a higher dosage is beneficial.

Naked Nutrition’s Marine Collagen can meet your daily goals easily. With one scoop, it can provide 11g of pure collagen peptides with zero sugar. Plus, it is odorless and tasteless so you can easily add it to your breakfast routine like coffee, smoothie, or even a bowl of oatmeal without realizing.

Are There Any Side Effects of Using Marine Collagen Supplements?

There are more advantages of collagen supplements than disadvantages. The good news is that the disadvantages are minimal and generally well-tolerated. You may experience mild digestive discomfort such as bloating, especially when starting. An allergic reaction may also appear to those who have seafood allergies.

How to Incorporate Collagen Powder into Your Diet

One of the things I love about Naked Nutrition’s Marine Collagen is its flavorless and odorless. Mixing it with your favorite makes it unnoticeable because it dissolves easily. Here are a few of my favorite ways to use it:

  • I like stirring a scoop in my morning coffee
  • I blend it with my favorite smoothie and add it to my ice cream recipes
  • You can add it to energy bite/balls recipes

There are many ways to enjoy your collagen powder. You’re not limited to the ways I mentioned above. Let your imagination flourish and do not be afraid to experiment with it. Often times when a recipe calls for unflavored protein powder, you can substitute it with marine collagen.

Final Thoughts

After carefully researching the product, reading numerous studies, and trying it for myself, I’ve decided that marine collagen definitely has a place in my diet. I already consume bovine derived collagen every day that I don’t have bone broth, because I love the benefits that I get from consuming collagen peptides. If you’re looking for a high-quality collagen powder that’s science backed with proven benefits to aid in skin, joint, gut, and bone health, this might be a good product for you to try.
