Smoked Chicken Thighs

Cooking chicken thighs on the Smoker is one of the easiest ways to get juicy chicken thighs every single time. It's practically a set-it-and-forget-it type of cooking method.

The wood pellets used in Traeger smokers infuse the chicken with a distinct smokiness that elevates the chicken thighs to a whole new level. The skin develops a perfect caramelized crispy crust, offering a satisfying crunch with each bite.

  • Bone-in chicken thighs
  • Your favorite seasoning - I used a tandoori masala seasoning, but any poultry or chicken rub will do

Make sure that you check the internal temperature of the chicken thighs. The internal temperature of chicken should reach 165F.

How to make Smoked Chicken Thighs

  1. Turn Smoker to 275F, and heat for about 15 minutes or until the smoker reaches temperature.
  2. Blot the chicken thighs with a paper towel. Sprinkle with seasoning.
  3. Grease the grates and add the chicken thighs.
  4. Insert thermometer and cook for 1 hour 15 minutes, flipping halfway. 
  5. Remove when the chicken reaches an internal temperature of at least 165F.

Oven Directions

Preheat the oven to 400F. Place raw chicken thighs on a baking sheet.

Seasoning chicken thighs with your favorite seasoning.

Cook for 35-40 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165F.

Substitutions

If you don't have bone-in chicken thighs on hand, you can always use boneless chicken thighs or chicken breasts as a substitute.
