I’m not gonna lie, spaghetti squash tastes nothing like pasta…BUT if you’re looking for a healthier alternative to pasta and you’re tired of zoodles – you’re gonna love this easy air fryer spaghetti squash recipe!

It’s the easiest way to make spaghetti squash noodles!

PLUS spaghetti squash has a lot of vitamins and minerals without the gluten, and is a low calorie food compared to pasta! Perfect for those who follow a low-carb diet or who simply want to reduce their pasta intake.

Since getting my air fryer I’ve become more adventurous with the foods I try cooking in it and thought, why not try a spaghetti squash? Who would have thought I’d find the best low carb pasta noodles!

I way prefer these over making zoodles! The texture is way better and doesn’t have the sliminess that zucchini sometimes has.

Honestly the hardest part of this recipe is cutting the darn squash in half!

Ingredients

  • small to medium spaghetti squash (size depends on the size of your air fryer)
  • oil (avocado oil or olive oil)
  • seasoning (sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, red pepper flakes)

This spaghetti squash recipe can be as flavorful or bland as you want to make it. It just depends on how you’re planning on eating it. If you’re making it as a side dish to an entree then I say load it up with all the spices. Even top it with fresh garlic and parmesan cheese!

If you’re planning on making low carb spaghetti and meatballs and you already have a low carb marinara sauce, I’d go light on the seasonings.

How to make Spaghetti Squash in an Air Fryer

  1. If your spaghetti squash is slightly too big for your air fryer, place on a cutting board and cut the ends off of your spaghetti squash.
  2. Then slice your spaghetti squash in half longways with a sharp knife – do this carefully because it will be hard. If you want, you can microwave your squash for a few minutes to make it easier to cut.
  3. Scoop all the seeds out with a large spoon from the inside of the squash and discard.
  4. Next place the halves of the squash in the air fryer basket
  5. Drizzle the squash halves with oil (you can use a brush to help coat evenly)
  6. Sprinkle the squash with desired spices. If you have to put the second half of spaghetti squash in sideways oil and season it before putting it in the air fryer basket.
  7. Cook for 18 minutes at 380F. You’ll know the spaghetti squash is done when a spoon or fork easily goes through the flesh of the squash.
  8. Carefully remove the squash from the air fryer because it will be hot.
  9. Hold onto the squash with a pot holder and scrap out the flesh into long strands. Mix it around with a fork to evenly spread the seasonings.

Recipe tips

  • If you want a fancy presentation, scoop the flesh back into the rind of the squash and top with parsley and parmesan cheese
  • Store leftover spaghetti squash in an airtight container
  • Make it a meal by adding meatballs or cooked ground beef, marinara or homemade tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  • Alternatively if you have an Instant Pot on hand you can place a whole spaghetti squash in an Instant Pot without cutting it and cook on high pressure for 11 minutes. Magic I know!
