Super creamy and deliciously refreshing, youโ€™ll love this Ninja Creami Coconut Ice Cream. It has just 5 ingredients, and is packed full of protein.ย Just a little over 300 calories and 50g of protein per pint!

A white bowl containing multiple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a spoon resting on the side. Thin coconut flakes are sprinkled on top of the ice cream.

Ninja Creami Coconut Ice Cream (Protein Ice Cream)

Ever since I made this dairy free coconut ice cream in the Ninja Creami that reminded me of the one from Talenti, I wanted to create higher protein version.

This time I chose not to do a dairy free recipe because I wanted it to be SUPER creamy. I had seen a lot of people adding flavorer yogurts to recipes in the same way that you'd add flavored pudding mixes or flavored protein powders so I decided to give it a try.

It did the trick!

If you're looking for more easy and delicious recipes, check out my Healthy Ice Cream Recipes Ebook. You'll find 26 recipes, including protein ice cream recipes, dairy-free recipes, and recipes without gums and pudding mixes.

A spoon rests in a plastic container filled with creamy white yogurt, with some of the yogurt on the spoon and a few shavings on the surface beside the container.

You can pretty much add a scoop of unflavored protein powder to any recipe, as long as it's a high quality protein powder. I've noticed the isolates tend to work better, but I haven't tried every brand on the market yet. Depending on the fat content or lack of emulsifiers, you may just have to give it a re-spin or two for the best texture.

A container of whipped cream with a metal whisk inside. Some shredded coconut is sprinkled on top of the whipped cream and nearby on the surface.

Notes

So, a few things about this ice cream.

  1. The yogurt alone did not give it enough of a coconut flavor to my liking, so after I made the base I tasted it and then added a few drops of coconut extract.
  2. Alternatively, you can use coconut milk instead of Fairlife to give it more of a coconut flavor. Just note, it will have higher calories and less protein if you go this route.
  3. If the base isnโ€™t sweet enough for you, add more of your desired sweetener.

A container of whey protein isolate, a bottle of reduced-fat lactose-free milk, a cup of low-sugar yogurt, and two packets of plant-based sweetener on a white surface.

Tips & Tricks

Be sure to prepare in advance. This recipe takes 18-24 hours to freeze. I like to plan ahead and make it before the weekend. This is when I always want an extra sweet treat.

Tools to make this easy recipe

  • Ninja Blender โ€“ I love my ninja blender. Not only can you use it for the obvious, like smoothies and shakes, but it also works perfectly for making the ice cream base!
  • Ninja Creami ice cream maker โ€“ I am in love with this Ninja Creami.
  • Ninja Creami Pints - I opted for these pints because they were about half the price, but be weary if you need them quickly; it took about three weeks to get here. They did have some prime options for other pint containers, but I was being thrifty.

How to make Coconut Ice Cream with your Ninja Creami

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  2. Next, transfer the mixture into the Ninja Creami pint and place the lid on.
  3. Transfer the pint to the freezer and freeze for at least 24 hours.
  4. After 24 hours, remove the lid and place the pint into the pint holder. Place the lid with the blade on top and lock it into place.
  5. Run the Ninja Creami on the lite ice cream function. You will need to respin twice for the best texture.
  6. Enjoy!

How to store

When freezing the ice cream pint, make sure the lid is on secured and it's placed in the freezer on a flat surface. The ice cream should last 3 to 6 months in the freezer.

If you don't eat all of the ice cream in one sitting, make sure to flatten the top of the ice cream, replace the lid and store in the freezer. When you're ready to eat it again you will need to run it on the ice cream or lit ice cream function for 2 spins.
