Ninja Creami Dark Chocolate Protein Ice Cream

This Ninja Creami Dark Chocolate Protein Ice Cream is everything you want. It's super creamy, sweet, and is packed full of protein!

After you spin this recipe, just add your favorite toppings like sprinkles, mini marshmallows, or even crushed-up cookies or Oreos.

Or keep it on the healthier side and add sliced fruit like I did in this banana protein ice cream and this chocolate cherry protein ice cream.

You can pretty much add a scoop of unflavored protein powder to any recipe, as long as it's a high quality protein powder. I've noticed the isolates tend to work better, but I haven't tried every brand on the market yet. Depending on the fat content or lack of emulsifiers, you may just have to give it a re-spin or two for the best texture.

Notes

So, a few things about this ice cream.

  1. It's more of a soft-serve ice cream texture, so spinning on "lite" works best.
  2. If you want more solid texture, try adding 1 tablespoon of sugar free pudding mix or some unflavored collagen or beef gelatin.
  3. Cacao powder is more bitter than cocoa powder. Taste the base before you spin it, if it's too bitter, add a little bit more sweetener.

Ingredients

  • Vanilla extract
  • Monk Fruit in the raw
  • 2% Fairlife Milk
  • Cacao powder
  • Unflavored Whey Protein Isolate

You can use oat milk in this recipe (which works better than almond milk - way less icy), but you will be reducing the protein.

Nutrition Information

For the whole pint: 436kcals, 55g protein, 64g total carbs, 10g fiber, 36g sugar alcohols, 18g net carbs, 12g fat.

For 1 serving: 218kcals, 27.5g protein, 32g total carbs, 5g fiber, 18g sugar alcohols, 9g net carbs, 6g fat.

As you can see, the total carbs are high, but the net carbs are much lower because of the amount of sugar, alcohol, and fiber. If you want to reduce the fat, without reducing the protein content of this recipe, switch the 2% milk for the fat-free version.

Tips & Tricks

Be sure to prepare in advance. This recipe takes 18-24 hours to freeze. I like to plan ahead and make it before the weekend. This is when I always want an extra sweet treat.

Tools to make this easy recipe

  • Ninja Blender – I love my ninja blender. Not only can you use it for the obvious, like smoothies and shakes, but it also works perfectly for making the ice cream base!
  • Ninja Creami ice cream maker – I am in love with this Ninja Creami.
  • Ninja Creami Pints - I opted for these pints because they were about half the price, but be weary if you need them quickly; it took about three weeks to get here. They did have some prime options for other pint containers, but I was being thrifty.

How to store

When freezing the ice cream pint, make sure the lid is on secured and it's placed in the freezer on a flat surface. The ice cream should last 3 to 6 months in the freezer.

What to do if you don't eat the entire pint

If you don't eat all of the ice cream in one sitting, make sure to flatten the top of the ice cream, replace the lid and store in the freezer. When you're ready to eat it again you will need to run it on the lite ice cream function, and respin twice.
