If you're looking for a delicious, easy to make, high protein chocolate ice cream with just 2 ingredients, I've got you covered! Only 195 calories for the entire pint!

If you've been wondering if you can make ice cream with Fairlife protein shakes, I'm here to tell you, that you totally can!

This is the first of many recipes that I've been testing using the 30g Protein Chocolate Fairlife Shakes that I get at my local BJs Wholesale Store.

I wanted to start off with something super basic. So I thought the easiest thing to do was to add an unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

Let me tell you, this was the first time that I had the infamous "huge hump" and "my blade fell off." The machine was making some crazy loud noises and at one point I thought it was going to break!

The first time I made the recipe I used one shake and I put almond milk up to the fill line, which was about 1 ¾ cup. Please do not do this. This ended up being too much liquid and caused a giant hump (which froze all the way to the cap!) even though I didn't fill it up past the fill line.

Next time I made this recipe I reduced the almond milk to 1.5 cups and it worked perfectly. As with any recipe, taste the base before you freeze it, if it's not sweet enough to your desired tastes buds, feel free to add some sweetener.

Some options for sweeteners include:

  • Maple Syrup
  • Zero Sugar Maple Syrup
  • Simple Syrup
  • Flavored Coffee Syrups
  • Allulose
  • Monk Fruit
  • Erythritol
  • Stevia
  • Cane Sugar
  • Brown Sugar

Obviously adding a sweetener may affect the macros, so chose whichever is best suited for yourself depending on your taste preference (some sugar alcohols may have a bitter or cooling effect) and health preferences (brown sugar, simple syrup and cane sugar have carbs which will increase glucose/blood sugar).

Being a dietitian I love to nerd out on nutrition, but that's not what this post is about.

If you're wondering what the macros look like for this High Protein Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe, I got you covered. I used Cronometer to calculate the macros for this recipe.

Tools to make this Ninja Creami Recipe

  • Ninja Creami ice cream maker – I am in love with this Ninja Creami.
  • Ninja Creami Pints – I opted for these pints because they were about half the price, but be weary if you need them quickly; it took about three weeks to get here. They did have some prime options for other pint containers, but I was being thrifty.

How to make high protein chocolate ice cream in the Ninja Creami

  1. Add the protein shake and almond milk to a pint container and stir until well mixed.
  2. Place the lid on securely and transfer to the freezer. Freeze for 24 hours.
  3. After 24 hours, remove the lid and place the pint into the pint holder. Place the lid with the blade on top and lock into place.
  4. Run the Ninja Creami on the lite ice cream function. You will need to re-spin it 3 times for the best texture. Tip, if you continue to get a powdery consistency's try adding in a tablespoon of liquid with the re-spins. (I didn't add any liquid between spins).
  5. Optionally, top with sprinkles or your favorite ice cream toppings and enjoy!

Substitutions

If you want to make this even higher in protein, substitute the almond milk with skim milk. To make this a more decadent version, use half and half or cream instead of almond milk.

How to store

Store your chocolate ice cream in the freezer with the lid on. It should last 3 to 6 months in the freezer.

Didn’t finish all of your pint in one sitting? Simply smooth out the ice cream to make it level, place the lid on, and store it in the freezer. When you’re ready to eat your ice cream, you’ll need to select the lite ice cream function again to make it nice and creamy and ready to eat. You may need to re-spin it a few times to get the perfect texture.
