The Ninja Creami will transform the way you make your protein ice cream recipes! It makes amazingly tasty ice cream that is way better than those store bought brands. And for a fraction of the price!
Let me preface this post by saying that I have now made this protein-packed healthy Ninja CREAMi recipe 20+ times. It always comes out perfect.
And if it is just a tad bit powdery (possibly because you used a different type of milk or protein powder) just add a tablespoon of liquid and respin.
BOOM. Perfect protein ice cream recipe, with little to no effort.
This recipe is from my Healthy Ice Cream Recipes Ebook. You'll find this recipe and 25 other recipes, including protein ice cream recipes, dairy-free recipes, and recipes without gums and pudding mixes.

I try to update that post frequently, this Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream was my most recent creation with blueberries that I picked myself when up in Michigan.
This Keto Chocolate Protein Ice Cream was the first Ninja Creami protein ice cream that I added to my blog. It's a low carb dairy free version of this ice cream recipe.
I've also made this Ninja Creami Strawberry Ice Cream Recipe, Ninja Creami Peanut Butter Ice Cream, Ninja Creami Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe and this Chocolate Protein Ice Cream Recipe without Bananas.
I went from drinking boring protein shakes to eating protein ice cream almost every morning. Ice cream is my guilty pleasure.
If you put it in front of me, I will eat it all in one sitting. I have a terrible sweet tooth.
You can have an entire pint of this healthy chocolate protein ice cream for just 311 calories and 41g of protein!
Why You'll love this Healthy Protein Ice Cream
- Healthy ice cream recipe - This recipe is has about 107 calories and has 14 grams of protein.
- Super easy to make - This chocolate high-protein ice cream recipe has just a few simple ingredients. The only hard part is waiting 18-24 hours for the ice cream to be frozen.
- Super Macro Friendly Ice Cream - for the entire pint of this chocolate protein ice cream recipe there is: 311kcals, 40.8g protein, 43g total carbs, 12g sugar alcohols, 5.7g fiber, 25.3g net carbs, and 6.2g fat
Another reason why I absolutely love this chocolate protein ice cream recipe is that you don't need a food processor or to stand in front of an ice cream maker for a long time.
The Ninja Creami whips up the protein ice cream so quick! The texture is great too. It's just slightly softer than traditional ice cream.
This recipe doesn't have any artificial preservatives, xanthan gum or guar gum like regular ice cream can sometimes have.
It's a good option when you're looking for a healthy treat. This will soon become one of your favorite ice cream recipes!
Ingredients
- Fairlife milk - Fairlife is a great high protein, low carb, low fat milk option. And it doesn't have those funky gums or emulsifiers than can mess with your stomach! I've used both 2% and fat free version when making this recipe.
- Banana - I used half a banana so it gives a pop of flavor
- Whey Protein - I use an unflavored grass-fed protein powder. It mixes great and doesn't have any weird or gritty aftertaste or mouth feel.
- Vanilla extract - you can use either liquid vanilla extract or you can even use vanilla bean paste for a richer vanilla flavor
- Stevia extract - I love the convenience of NOW Organic Stevia Extract
- Besti Monk Fruit Erythritol Blend - I’ve been loving the Besti Brand Sweeteners. I have a few of them that I alternate between.
- Unsweetened Cocoa powder - make sure it’s an unsweetened kind. Regular or dark cocoa powder works. Just make sure you don’t use cacao powder for this or it will be bitter and not as sweet.
- Stevia sweetened chocolate chips - I love Lily's, they've been my go-to for years! These are optional for the recipe and not added into the macros. But 1 tablespoon of LILY's semi sweet chocolate chips will add a total of 60kcals, 8g carbs, 4g fiber, 3g sugar alcohols, 4.5g fat and 1g of protein.
Tips & Tricks
Make sure to make this recipe the day before you want to eat the ice cream. If not you'll be sad and have to wait 18-24 hours before you're able to eat it.
You'll love this ice cream's creamy texture. You might just find yourself having it as an afternoon snack or post-workout snack!
Tools to make this Protein Chocolate Ice Cream
- Ninja Blender - I absolutely love my ninja blender. Not only can you use it for the obvious like smoothies and shakes, but it works perfect for making the ice cream base as well!
- Ninja Creami ice cream maker - I honestly am in love with this Ninja Creami. Before I bought these extra Ninja Creami Pints I was using it every day. Now I make ice cream in my Ninja Creami in bulk, doing 4-5 recipes at a time. I opted for those pints because they were about half the price, but be weary if you need them quickly, it took about 3 weeks to get here. They did have some prime options, but I was being thrifty.
How to make Homemade Protein Ice Cream in a Ninja Creami
- Add all of the ingredients into a blender, except for the chocolate chips. Blend until the ingredients are well combined.
- Transfer the liquid to the Creami ice cream pint and place the lid on tight. Freeze for 18-24 hours.
- Once the ice cream base is completely frozen, remove it from the freezer.
- Remove the lid and transfer the pint into the Ninja Creami pint holder.
- Place the blade into the lid and then place the lid onto the pint holder.
- Lock the ice cream into the creami and select either the ice cream or soft serve selections.
- If after one round of spinning your ice cream is a little dusty in texture and not creamy, select the “spin again” setting.
- Next, make a hole in the ice cream and drop in your chocolate chips. Next, select the “mix-in” setting and let that run. After it’s finished remove the pint from the holder and enjoy.
Don't forget to add your favorite toppings! I added some sugar free chocolate chips.
Chocolate Protein Ice Cream Macros
Per entire pint there is 311kcals, 40.8g protein, 43g carbs, 12g sugar alcohols, 5.7g fiber, 25.3g net carbs, and 6.2g fat. And it's up to you on how many servings you want to make out of it.
Ninja Creami Chocolate Protein Ice Cream Substitutions
- If you are wanting a higher calorie protein ice cream, you can substitute the milk with heavy cream or half and half. This would be good for someone wanting to gain weight, someone who is having trouble getting enough calories in, or if you are intermittent fasting and need high calorie food choices.
- If you can't find Fairlife milk, you can use skim or 1% milk of your choice.
- You can also use any milk alternative instead of Fairlife milk to reduce the calorie content of this chocolate protein ice cream.
- You can add in mix ins like this protein cookie dough, nuts, or sugar free chocolate chips
- You can use frozen bananas instead of fresh if that's all you have on hand
Can I use Chocolate Protein Powder or Vanilla Protein Powder?
Personally I prefer to use an unflavored whey protein powder because you can better control the flavor profile of the protein powder ice cream. But in a pinch you can use a flavored protein powder.
If you're looking for a different kind of protein powder or low carb sweetener substitutions, hop on over to this keto protein ice cream recipe where I deep dive into lots of different protein powder and sugar substitute options.
How to store
Store this high protein chocolate ice cream in the freezer with the lid on and on a flat surface. It should last 3 to 6 months in the freezer as long as the lid is on tight to avoid freezer burn.
No need to add plastic wrap to the top. The Ninja Creami pint lids work great.
If you only eat a portion of it, make sure to smooth the top layer flat so you can spin it in the Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker when you’re ready to eat it again.
You will need to run the ice cream through the Ninja Creami again once it has been fully frozen.

Yes, you can make it without the stevia. I just like to do a stevia/monkfruit blend as a personal preference.
