Holy crap it's officially Summer! Down here in Florida it has been feeling like Summer since April. I know I tend to complain about the heat, but I will take the heat over a blizzard any day. This born-and-raised Florida girl is not very cold-tolerant!
I've been trying to jog/run more because I'm training with my friend Erica for the Disney Half Marathon in January but this heat is brutal. When I get up at 6am it already feels like it's 80F and even after the sun goes down (~8:30pm) it's still pretty hot out side.
How do you plan you workouts outside when the temp is reaching the upper 90's?
For me I've found it's best to try to run on over cast days or wait until the sun goes down. Recently it has been raining almost every afternoon so I've been able to run once it stops. On the plus side it's not excruciatingly hot, but on the flip side it's extremely humid.
So Erica and I have been slacking a little on our training because of our conflicting workout schedules, but a couple of weeks ago I got Erica/she got me to sign up the day before for a Sundae 5K on the beach.
Yep you heard me right! A Sundae as in Ice Cream Sundae 5K 🙂 Think homemade ice cream topped with all toppings imaginable! Nom Nom!
So at 7am we got our happy butts up and made our way to the beach. We finished in ~44 minutes and then finished the race with a tasty Ice cream sundae!
Since that 5K neither of us have run or worked out eekkkkk. With working, blogging, chores, the holiday I've just become lazy. Yep, I admit it. I am far from perfect. I confess that I have gotten caught up with watching the last of The Game of Thrones, The Bachelorette, and Your Crazy Ex Girlfriend <---- So good. I was seriously LOL'ing.
So there you have it. My main excuse for not working out ^^^ Once I get into something, I tend to binge watch it until it's over. Thankfully 2 of the 3 are over for the season so I can actually get some work done. Also I've been having a little bit on insomnia lately. Last night I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 2:30am and couldn't go back to sleep. So I did what any sane person would do and went to work before the sun came up.
So, to keep me on track with eating healthy and working out I'm trying to limit Netflix to only a couple of nights per week and we've gotten back to meal prepping. On the fourth of July we whipped up these super easy and tasty barbecue turkey sliders. They're made with lean turkey breast and we loaded them up with veggies and healthy fats.
I love incorporating turkey breast into my diet! It's delicious, versatile and available in a variety of cuts, turkey is naturally low in fat and provides immune-boosting nutrients like iron, zinc and potassium. It’s also packed with lean protein to help keep you feel full longer.
