Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs

If you struggle with making hard boiled that the shells peel off easily, you'll love these air fryer hard boiled eggs. The air frying method works especially well for hard boiling farm fresh eggs.

If you know anything about farm fresh eggs you know how finicky they can be to hard boil so they peel easily. Check out my post on how to hard boil farm fresh eggs so they peel easily for all the details.

I love making eggs in an air fryer because it's so easy to cook the eggs to different consistencies. Whether you like soft boiled eggs, hard boiled eggs or in between. The air fryer method is the easiest and most consistent!

These air fried hard boiled eggs make for the perfect low carb snack! If you're looking for more low carb snack recipes, check out these activated almonds or these air fryer dehydrated tomatoes.

The hard "boiled" name may be a little misleading because this method doesn't use any water, but don't let it fool you these eggs come out amazing! They're quicker than making hard boiled eggs on the stove top because you don't need to wait for water to come to a boil.

You can eat these as alone (I like to top mine with kosher salt and black pepper when they're warm) or you can use the to make this keto potato salad or egg salad. They even make for an easy quick breakfast!

For example, if you look at the image below you'll see 4 different types of hard boiled eggs cooked in the air fryer. I did a little experiment with my Cosori air fryer so see for how long and at what temperature yielded different doneness of eggs.

My personal favorite is cooking them for 13 minutes!

diagram of time to air fry hard boil eggs

For this experiment I used regular large eggs that were at room temperature and cooked 4 at a time in the air fryer basket. If this is your first time making air fryer eggs please don't use an entire cartoon.

Times and temperatures may change depending on which brand of air fryer you use, the size of your eggs, the temperature of your eggs and the freshness of your eggs (farm fresh vs supermarket bought).

Cooking eggs in the air fryer at 250F

  • 11 minutes for soft boiled eggs
  • 13 minutes for jammy eggs
  • 15 for almost hard boiled eggs
  • 17 for hard boiled eggs

The main difference in all of these eggs is the doneness of the cooked egg yolks.

How to make air fryer hard boiled eggs

Many recipes call for you to pre-heat the air fryer but I'm lazy and skip this step! If you're taking your eggs straight from the fridge and placing them directly into the air fryer you will need to add 2-3 minutes to the cook time.

Place eggs in the air fryer basket. Set temperature to 250F and timer to 17 minutes for hard boiled eggs.

Once the timer goes off, carefully transfer the eggs to a water bath (bowl of ice water) for 5-10 minutes or until the eggs are cool enough that you can peel the shells.

This method makes it super easy to peel the shells without losing most of the whites.

Tips & FAQs for making hard boiled eggs in the air fryer

On your first time making a batch of air fryer hard boiled eggs

Limit the amount of eggs you put into the basket to 4-5. The reason behind this is so that you learn the correct cooking temperature and time for your model of air fryer. Once you learn this you can add up to 12 egg at a time

If your air fryer didn't come with a basket

You can use a short trivet to put into the basket so that the hot air can circulate and cook the eggs properly

If you don't have ice for an ice water bath

Run the eggs under cold water until they are cool enough to peel

How long do hard boiled eggs last after being cooked

I keep my eggs for 5-7 days and then toss them. Normally they all get ate way before then though!

How to store hard boiled eggs

Peel the eggs immediately after they've been taken out of the ice bath and then store the cold eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

It says to peel and keep in air tight container. Why? Can you just keep them in fridge without peeling?Lynnett

I've found that when you keep them in the fridge with the shell on that they don't peel easily.
