So the last two weeks since I’ve been back from vacation have been absolutely insane. In the last 2 weeks I worked 11 out of the 14 days (at my day job) and countless hours editing photos, making recipes and connecting with followers and brands on social media.
One thing that I’ve noticed, is when life gets busier, I start to panic/rush and inevitably forget things or make a mistake that I could have avoided. I’m not alone in this I hope LOL. These situations tend to pop up more frequently around holidays and since holidays are around the same time every year I’ve been able to plan and therefore discourage myself from making the same mistakes year after year.
These 3 must have life hacks, not only apply to around the holidays, but you can use them in everyday life. They may seem simple and obvious, but those are sometimes the ones that are overlooked the most.
Depending on what your habits and schedules currently look like now, you may really save some time and stress by implanting these life hacks now.
3 Must Have Life Hacks
- Use a planner or calendar of some sort. Whether you use the calendar in your phone, a fancy day planner, or a cute little notebook from Marshall’s, they’ll all do the trick. I use my phone calendar for all of my personal appointments/vacations and a cute notebook for all of my blogging and shopping needs since those tend to go hand in hand. I even stepped up my workout planning/coordination by using google sheets to make a calendar where all 4 of us girls can insert our work schedules for the week and see when we can all get together for a workout. I seriously don’t know why I hadn’t thought about that sooner!
- Meal planning and prepping. I honestly cannot stress this enough. This saves so much time and money! I don’t know about you but I enjoy my sleep, maybe a little too much sometimes so I try to do everything possible to get any extra sleep I can get. Since starting meal prepping, my morning routine has been cut down at least in half! I no longer have to pull out ever single ingredient to make a smoothie. I just grab my individually packaged baggie and some coconut milk. Plop them in a blender and voila. A healthy and tasty breakfast made in seconds and at a fraction of the cost of store-bought smoothies (mine taste better too!).
- Networking. This has been the hardest of the 3 for me. I am a very shy person even though you may not think I am by the way I look (so I have been told). I’m not a very good “people person.” I tend to enjoy my books and pets more than social interactions at times. Since blogging, I have met so many new friends that I otherwise would not have. You may think this sounds weird since blogging is entirely online, but I’ve created a network/tribe of other close and like-minded bloggers. We all learn from each other and help other because we all have other jobs and expertise outside of blogging. Back on my birthday I just met a new handful of friends at the Food Wine Conference in Orlando, FL (my second year attending). Last year this was my “ah ha” moment. Like Whoa. I seriously want to become a food blogger. Since then, I’ve upgraded to a real camera, I bought props, accessories, and I learned how to shoot and edit photos better. Seriously there is so much to learn to be a successful food blogger and I have only touched the surface! Keeping in touch with fellow bloggers has been a life saver! I hope to someday be able to return the favor to others.
So what has my crazy action packed scheduled looked like this week?
Well to start things off David and I went to the springs with his brother and his girlfriend Rachel. After 2 failed attempts because they were at max capacity, we ended up settling on Silver Springs. It wasn’t the ideal situation because you couldn’t swim or fish in the springs, but you could canoe and kayak.
The only bad thing was, after waiting for an hour and a half for a canoe, we found out that there were only 6 canoes in the entire springs! 6 only 6! So luckily we had planned accordingly because we ended up waiting 3 hours for 2 canoes to be available and then we spent the next 2.5 hours maneuvering our way through the springs. And boy was it a beautiful but hot day!
The water was crystal clear and we were able to see so many fish and gators! Just baby gators thankfully though. I did get to see some fishies up close and personal when I fell in the water while attempting to walk in the canoe. Yep, I am super clumsy and have the bruises to prove it! I managed to end the day without being sun burnt. I wish I could say the same for the next day.
So many of you know I live in a small town about 30 minutes south of Daytona and this past weekend was the first ever Country 500. I had no plans to go until the night before the last of the 3 days when my friend Amanda texted me asking if I wanted to go.
I was all for it until I found out that they wanted to leave the house at 10am and the music didn’t start until 2pm. I totally agreed with leaving early to get a good parking spot and a good lawn space close to the main stage, so I gave in. I wasn’t too keen on spending another whole day out in the sun especially since this pale girl never sees the light of day unless its to play in my garden or to run/workout outside.
Do you see that sky? This was at noon when they let us in. There wasn’t more than 5 minutes of cloud coverage at a time. I ended up putting on sun screen at least 3 times and I think I left there 10 pounds lighter despite drinking 6 bottles of water and an iced coffee while there.
I ate a super big and healthy breakfast before going since you weren’t allowed to bring in any snacks or drinks other than un-opened water bottles and I knew they wouldn’t have the healthiest of meal choices for me to choice from.
Lucky for me I was allowed (or they didn’t catch them in my purse LOL) to bring in my Centrum Vitamints that I purchased at Walmart. I always choose food over supplements, but I feel better knowing that I’m consuming something good for me when my options are looking like fried versus deep-fried lol.
So after multiple applications of sunscreen and countless potty trips the sun was finally starting to set. I don’t think I could have taken much more sun honestly. 2 days of back to back sun was wiping me out. At one point I thought I was going to fall asleep during the concert because I was so tired. I stuck it out and it did not disappoint. My favorites of the night were Jennifer Nettles and Luke Bryan. After being gone from 9:45a-12:30a I was ready to pass out when I got home (after a quick shower of course).
While most people were off on Memorial Day, David and I both chose to work so we can use our PTO days for vacation later on down the road. Did I mention that he surprised me with an amazing trip for my birthday?!!! We are flying to Seattle and then driving down the coast to San Francisco in late August. Ever since we left we couldn’t wait to go back!
After work, I met with one of my workout buddies and we did a lower body workout similar to my Booty Blastin’ Workout. Next I took a quick shower and then got dressed because my parents were coming over soon for a cookout with David and I.
Dinner tonight also double as meal prep so we cooked extra meats and vegetables and I threw the leftovers in containers for us to have as lunches for work.
Now as I sit here typing this it’s after midnight and past my bedtime LOL. I have 4 more days of work ahead of me until I have a day off to sleep in. I may try to go into work early so I can work on some chores before my workout buddy comes over at 5:30pm for an upper body workout.
